What to get for that special person who has everything? How about chandeliers for the garage?
Even better, chandeliers in a garage attached to a R150m house in one of Johannesburg’s priciest hoods, Sandhurst.
The sprawling new mansion was designed and built by Pellerade Design House on a “no expense spared” basis for an unnamed owner.
However, a decision was made to sell the property without the owner moving in, according to agent Rory O’Hagan, head of Chas Everitt International's luxury portfolio division.

O'Hagan said the property had attracted the attention of “leading financiers and professionals”.
“At this price, it is one of the most expensive properties ever to go on sale in Sandhurst,” said O’Hagan. “But we are confident of its valuation. It more than matches up to the Bantry Bay home that was sold a few years ago for R290m, which as far as we know was a residential record for SA.”
The three-storey home on the 7,000m² property was inspired by The Manor, a house in Los Angeles’s plush Holmby Hills area that was once the home of film and TV producer Aaron Spelling. It sold in 2019 for $119.75m (then about R1.7bn).
The Johannesburg house of 3,330m² has a cigar lounge, a 24-seat cinema, a 10-car garage with chandeliers, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a billiards room and a library. A spiral staircase from the library leads to a wine cellar.
Its entrance hall has a glass floor and a domed ceiling. There are four en suite bedrooms, five more bathrooms and a guest wing with another two en suite bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area and lounge.

The living rooms in the main house include an eight-seater breakfast room, a 16-seater dining room, a lounge with double-sided fireplace, a children’s lounge⁄study area and a family room that overlooks an indoor pool and hot tub.
“As befits a super home, there are also many special features, including a luxurious spa experience complete with salon, gymnasium, massage and steam rooms, sauna and two bathrooms,” said O’Hagan.
There are three bedrooms in the staff suite.
